~ Layout ~

The current layout is just a modified version of the base Quotationally layout. I liked the simplicity of it.

I had thought about a layout like this for years. The book and the tree and the colors and the way the page is formatted. I love it. I saw something like this years ago and wanted to find a way to make it my own. I got the picture from getty images and just had a little fun with it. The quote on top and bottom is an exceprt from The Door in the Hedge by Robin McKinley.

As much as I liked the last layout I kept thinking it was too dark for the summer. So, I went back to khallandra. I think this one has a light old world feel to it. Although, the fact that it's Pirates kind of creates a pirate overload with eidolon also having a Pirates layout. oh well.
What I should have done is use these layouts in reverse - this one for the summer and then in the fall switched to the Narnia layout. oops.
The code from Aero isn't perfect because if you don't have 1024x768 (and all sorts of other specifics) things probably don't look right. I don't know how to get around that and still do what I want as precisely as I want.

New pre-made layout from khallandra. It's kind of wintery for the spring, but I couldn't quite manage the arabian style one I wanted and I needed a change. I also I kept wanting to use something from Amy Brown but you're not allowed to and I'm all into following the rules blah blah blah. I like this one because it has some gravitas to it. Plus it's brown which is new for me. I learned some new fun things you can do with div layers
Then I took the new fun things I learned about div layers and stashed them in a drawer. The code for the layout is from Aero at Coding Forums.

Just a nice simple thing I did one night. It's Eowyn and a nice flower I got from getty images that originally had a dragonfly on it. I like the way it's wispy and half there and full of longing.

Kind of new layout; a conglomerate of pictures from getty images. I continue to love the sad angel. Visually she says a lot about the complexity of joy and tragedy. The blue kind of gives it a dark, lost sort of feel but the butterfly also kind of gives an idea of hope.

site reinvented
This is the original layout created by Doan at the now closed Forgotten Butterfly Web Design. She is very talented, friendly and was professional in assisting me because I was suddenly trying things completely outside the realm I'd been in before.
The splash graphic was done by me (surprisingly enough) from an original picture from Fantasy Planet.

~ Name ~

The name is a word coined by J.R.R. Tolkien to describe the good calamity or the joyous turn after the long struggle that causes that catch of breath near to or even accompanied by tears.  I like the idea of it.  At first I just thought it was fitting with my websites that seem good at times, but also a sort of calamity in webspace.  But when Doan created the wonderful original layout for me the name really took on more significance in what I was trying to say.  When I converted this to a quote site I kept the name, because it still fit.

~ Inspiration ~

The inspiration for this site was initially nonexistent.  I just wanted a sort of hub for all my websites.  But the original layout really inspired me when I was able to connect it to the quote from Tolkien, in the beginning.  And then that quote seemed to inspire to explore more of what I'd already been learning about myth and fairy tale and art and how all of that relates to Christ.  Then when I got my domain I cannibalized a lot of this site and didn't know what to do with what was left.  I'd wanted to create a quote site for a while, so I just converted this site into that.

I expanded on the quote idea with my page on mythology.  I hoped to express ideas I have about myth and fairy tale stepping into reality with the Gospel of Christ.  I found that J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and Frederick Buechner had already done that and said it much better than I can manage at this point in my life.  So, it's mostly a melding of their quotes with transitional thoughts I interject.  Which is why it seemed appropriate on my quote site.  I think it's more profound and interesting than anything I'd have managed on my own.
